008 James Magnum "I Fall Asleep in Brooklyn"

"I Fall Asleep in Brooklyn"
By James Magnum
May 2009

From James:
It was recorded on a Saturday morning around 2am, in the window of a friend's apartment in Bedstuy. This extraordinary bird kept singing all night long, so i set up my h4 portable recorder and fell asleep.I woke up and discovered I had recorded two whole hours of this bird before the batteries died. As i listened to it again, i could hear the traffic of broadway, the J train, a haunting stereo playing Spanish music, doors opening and closing, street walkers, and a faint breeze that kept the compressor on my mic in peril.
